Black Lives Matter Boston believes in the power of the people. All power to the people. We are proud members of the Black Freedom Front (BFF), which informs the core of our grassroots efforts. We actively canvass our communities and connect with new members, to meet the people where they are.
We are organizing the Boston CurbFest to unite the people, honor a Black Radical Tradition and shed light on the contributions of U.S.-held Political Prisoners, who have dedicated their lives to serving our communities. Our goal is to explore how community members can engage with and support the freedom campaigns of these current Political Prisoners. This work is crucial. Our Political Prisoners are freedom fighters who have sacrificed so much so we may be made whole. They have transformed crime-ridden parks (Imam Jamil Al-Amin), supported single mothers (Baba Kamau Sadiki), healed those struggling with addiction (Dr. Mutulu Shakur), and protected figures like Assata Shakur (Baba Sekou Odinga), and so much more! The people, must come together to stand with and work for freedom and against oppression and repression.
Several groups are supporting Boston CurbFest through phone banking, door knocking, and spreading the word. You can also get involved and support these efforts! Let us know how we can assist you in joining this mission. Thank you!
If you're interested in being a part of the Boston CurbFest, please fill out the form below. Be as thorough as possible. Spaces are filling up. We encourage you to complete the form as early as possible.
Black August was created by those who had the most to lose. It honors resistence against imperialism, white supremacy and oppression. The original intention of The Black Guerilla Family in 1979 when Black August was created to commemorate the sacrifices of Jonathan P. Jackson and George L. Jackson during the storming of the Marin County Courthouse to demand the liberation of the Soledad Brothers, Black political prisoners incarcerated by the American prison system. If those on the inside can risk it all to stand up for what they believe in, justice minded people can do the same, if not more.
We are still collecting data to inform the work we are doing. Too often our voices are reduced to the opinions of others. We want to learn from you how we can better serve our communities. Tell us directly. Fill out the community survey below.
